Gigabyte's implementation supports up to 12 devices attached to theZ170X-UD5 TH's dual ports. Thunderbolt devices can be daisy-chained for even more flexibility – for connecting multiple monitors, for example. Gigabyte's Z170X-UD5 TH uses Intel's controller to bring a single wire bandwidth of up to 40Gb/s and support for protocols such as DisplayPort 1.2 and USB 3.1. We have seen quite a few Thunderbolt 3 enabled laptops launched in recent weeks so it's good to start seeing motherboards destined for desktop PCs starting to be launched with this fast and flexible interface built-in. Thunderbolt 3 connectivity is available over either of the two reversible USB Type-C connectors on the rear I/O panel.

This Skylake processor supporting (LGA1151) motherboard is claimed to be the world's first to be the Intel Thunderbolt 3 certified. Gigabyte Technology has revealed its new Z170X-UD5 TH motherboard.
